Fire and health authorities have deemed as a potential fire disaster in the making a metal recycling dump operated by B’s Recycling at Cane Garden, St. Thomas and ordered operations halted at that section of the business to facilitate a clean-up.
At a news conference this afternoon Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, with the fire chief officer Errol Maynard at his side, disclosed that officials have carried out inspections at the site as a follow-up to a fire there in 2019.
Mr. Abrahams said he and other officials have also conducted a recent site visit and while the B’s card, plastic and glass recycling operation can continue, the business has been served a notice giving it 21 days to clean up and reorganize the metal dump now termed a fire and rodent hazard.
