Expect layoffs, price increases and other measures across the business sector in response to what they say is a burdensome 30% increase in the minimum wage at a very difficult time.
Former President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eddie Abed, was reacting to news that government is going ahead with a plan to increase the minimum wage to $8.50 per hour from April 1st 2021.
He says some businesses will have no choice but to pass on the resulting increase in their operating costs.
