Players in this country’s entertainment and cultural sector are becoming increasingly doubtful that there will be a Crop Over this year and say this would be catastrophic for many in the business.
This, against the background of a spike in cases and government’s admission that there is community spread of COVID-19 in Barbados.
Commenting on the possibility that there may be no Crop Over festival for a second straight year, President of the Barbados Association of Band Leaders and Masqueraders Anthony Layne, said they remain hopeful but the chances of having a festival this year are looking dim with each passing day.
General Manager of the Aura Experience Rondelle Jones, stressed that a large number of businesses depend on Crop Over and said its loss would be massive.
He notes no decision has been made as yet, and right now they are just in a wait and see mode.
