The Barbados workers union has agreed to delay their industrial action planned for today.
The union says they have accepted, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s call for more time…. to allow her to bring a resolution to the dispute, between security company G4S and the BWU.
This afternoon, Prime Minister Mottley, will make another attempt to broker a deal between the two parties.
Earlier this week, she brought the parties together to try to reach an agreement…. and when those talks broke down…. had asked the BWU to hold off on any action…. pending the government obtaining a legal opinion on its options in the dispute.
That opinion is to be discussed at this morning’s cabinet meeting … and the Prime Minister is to bring both sides back together this afternoon.
In an interview with Starcom Network News, James Devers, Managing Director of G4S English Caribbean Division, said the company is keen to try to resolve the issue.
He made it clear the company wants to avoid a national strike.
