DLP suspends Kemar Stuart

The Democratic Labour Party has suspended its General Secretary Kemar Stuart.

Mr. Stuart who is also the president of the party’s youth arm appeared in court recently to answer a charge of marijuana possession.

Sources close to the party confirmed the suspension and told Starcom Network News that a meeting was held internally and the decision made to take that action pending the outcome of the court matter.

When contacted this morning party president VerlaDepeizasaid she was standing by a previous statement made by the party on October 13 which said the development was unfortunate.

That statement added that he is a young man and that he’s not the first neither will he be the last young person to encounter challenges with marijuana possession.

The statement noted that many families face similar situations and emphasised that he is a member of the Democratic Labour Party family and has proven to be an asset to it.
