The Heart and Stroke Foundation reports a worrying epidemic of non-communicable diseases in Barbados, an explosion of hypertension, diabetes, heart attacks, and strokes.
The foundation’s senior Vice President, Ena Harvey, reports that 80% to 90% of the people admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) are a result of one of these ailments.
She was speaking this morning at the launch of the 2020 different strokes polo match a charity initiative to raise funds for the foundation.
Ms. Harvey also speaks of rampant obesity among school children with some of them also now diabetic as a result.
