‘Not overly worried about increase taxes’

Head of the local private sector Agency, Edward Clarke is not overly worried about the increase in taxes announced by Prime Minister Mia Mottley yesterday.

Addressing the Chamber of Commerce meeting, Ms. Mottley put the country on notice that additional taxes and fees for state services could be coming.

Mr. Clarke says under the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme, Barbados has to meet the primary surplus target of about six percent, and this can only be achieved by increasing revenue or cutting costs.

The Private Sector head says he welcomes the restart of the Sam Lords Castle project, among others, adding that the country needs to create new revenue streams that can ease the strains on the economy.
