Uphill battle for Hewitt

Uphill battle for Hewitt

Reverend Guy Hewitt may have to choose another constituency other than Christ Church East Central if he hopes to run for the Democratic Labour Party in the next general election.

Reverend Hewitt yesterday announced his intention to seek the party’s nomination to contest the seat formerly held by Ronald Jones and which is currently represented by Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn.

However, Starcom Network News understands that the DLP is well advanced in its selection of a candidate for that riding and may be on the verge of making an announcement.

Sources tell Starcom Network News that the party’s executive council met last night and discussed Reverend Hewitt’s interest in running there.

However, it appears unlikely his wish will be granted as the selection process is considered to be too near completion for that.

When contacted, DLP General Secretary Damien Griffith, declined to comment on last night’s meeting saying that was internal party business.

He would only say that the party welcomes Reverend Hewitt’s interest and emphasized that there’s a process to be followed for prospective candidates.
