Savannah protest

Close to 100 former employees of the Savannah Hotel protested outside the property this morning demanding their severance pay.

They say they were upset after receiving correspondence from the General Manager stating that the hotel was unable to pay severance and that they would have to seek assistance from the National Insurance Scheme.

Meantime, Trade unionist Senator Caswell Franklyn, contends that government will be stuck with the costs for severance for laid-off tourism workers.

Speaking on VOB’s Getting Down to Brass Tacks call-in program, Senator Franklyn said he doubts government will be able to recover that money from the businesses concerned, contrary to what government officials have claimed.
