Hit and Run Concern

Hit and Run Concern

Following an unprecedented three road fatalities in three days, two of them hit and run, the police and the road safety association are appealing to motorists to be more careful, and are worried about the hit and run trend.

Meanwhile, the motor insurance sector wants a crackdown on unlicensed and uninsured drivers and vehicles.

This is after 75-year-old Ainsley Bradshaw of Lodge Road, Christ Church, last night became the victim in the 6th fatal road traffic collision for the year, the third such fatality and the second hit and run in just three days.

Mr. Bradshaw, a pedestrian, was struck and killed by a vehicle just after 9 pm at Lodge Road. The vehicle fled the scene.

This follows another hit and run in the early hours of Saturday morning in which a pedestrian was struck and killed at Long Bay main road in St. Philip.

Meantime, just past midnight yesterday, a passenger in a car died when he was thrown from a vehicle that ran off the road and crashed at the Balls Road, Christ Church junction of the ABC Highway.

Police public affairs and communications officer, Inspector Rodney Inniss is concerned about the trend.

President of the General Insurance Association of Barbados Randy Graham believes the number of uninsured vehicles is a major worry.

President of the Barbados Driving School Association and P.R.O. of the Road Safety Association, Erskine Cumberbatch has issued an appeal.
