25 homes affected/6 destroyed in Wellington Street blaze

Twenty-five people have been displaced by a fire at Wellington Street in the City that the Barbados Fire Service battled until well into the early hours of this morning.

Sixteen houses were affected with six destroyed.

Acting Chief Fire Officer, Henderson Patrick, says the Fire Service was notified of the fire at around 10:23 last night and was able to get it under control around 4 o’clock this morning.

When Starcom Network News visited the scene some residents in the area claimed that the fire truck had challenges getting water.

One resident says she believes this is the reason why so many houses were destroyed.

However, the acting Fire Chief says that there were no water challenges and the close proximity of the homes to each other contributed to the quick spread of the blaze.
