Muslims want Eid-Al-Fitr as a national holiday

The Muslim community is hopeful Government will consider declaring, Eid a national holiday in Barbados.

The annual festival is held after members of the religious group mark the end of Ramadan which is a period of prayer and fasting. Yesterday Muslims across the world marked the occasion with communal prayer before hosting family and friends at social gatherings.

Speaking with Starcom Network News President of the Association of Muslim Ladies Sakina Bakaria said that the Eid holiday would give the 3000-plus Muslims on the island the opportunity to celebrate their festival in the same way other groups in Barbados can.
