A Silver Hill family say they are shattered by the shooting death of 13-year-old Shawnaton Chase but are heartened by the outpouring of support from across the country, including a call from Prime Minister Mia Mottley and a visit by Minister of Educational Transformation, Chad Blackman.
Shawnaton, a student of the Lodge School, was watching a netball game at the hardcourts at Silver Hill, Christ Church about 7:45 last night when someone opened fire.
The youngster was shot several times in the abdomen and was transported in a private vehicle to hospital where he died.
When Starcom Network News visited the family home this morning, Shawnaton’s father was continuing to receive a flood of calls and visits as the entire nation shared his grief.
Meantime, Shawnaton’s uncle Desmond Chase says he occasionally hears gunfire in the distance but never though it would hit directly home. He wants the authorities to take decisive action to deal with the gun violence.
