Students and teachers at the Lodge School wept openly this morning for 13-year-old Shawnaton Chase, who was gunned down last night at Silver Hill, Christ Church.
His death has sent thousands of Barbadians into a state of sadness after news broke of the shooting that occurred at the Silver Hill Hardcourt where Chase was watching a game of netball.
He was shot in the abdomen and was rushed to the hospital by private motor car, but succumbed to his injuries before midnight.
When Starcom Network visited the Lodge School this morning, students were seen in the car park consoling each other before general assembly after which counsellors met with Form 2-3.
Principal Stephen Jackman said the situation is hurtful.

Chase’s form teacher, Nicholas Brathwaite was struck hard by the news and had to be held by fellow teachers. He spoke highly of his former student.
The young man was also a former student of the Milton Lynch Primary School, previously Christ Church Boys, and Principal Tyrone Marshall held him in high regard.
A student also shared his memory of Shawnaton Chase.
The Lodge School has been closed half day and will remain closed tomorrow and Friday. Classes resume on Monday with further counselling available to students and staff.
