Barbados is urging other Caricom countries to honor their financial commitments to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and disaster mitigation initiatives such as the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM)
The appeal has come from this country’s Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, who was speaking at the RRM After-Action Review and Consultation in Barbados this morning.
He says some countries only recognize the value of the disaster management organizations when they are directly affected.
He stressed that disaster offices and national emergency management systems must receive adequate funding to ensure a swift and effective response to disasters.
