Four men released on bail after drug charges

Four men charged in connection with a big drug bust have been granted bail despite strong opposition from prosecutors.

Kings Counsel Michael Lashley, Shadia Simpson and Simon Clarke were able to convince Magistrate Deidre McKenna today in the Oistins Magistrate Court that their candidates were fit for bail.

It meant that Damario Dottin, 27 of Brereton, St. Phillip, Jamar Kirton, 35 of Sunbury, St. Phillip, John Edey, 42 of Evelyn Road, St. Phillip and Wayne Chase, 53 of Edgecumbe Tenanatry, St. Phillip who are charged with assisting and aiding in the commission of an arrestable offence to wit unlawful possession of a control drug.

They had to surrender all their travel documents and are to report to the District B Police Station every Monday and Friday.

The fifth man charged, Roydell Skeete, 40 of Sandy Hill Trace, Tobago was however remanded until March 13th.

The drugs which were seized on Welches Beach on February 9th, allegedly in the presence of the said accused, have an estimated street value of 4.6 million Barbados dollars.

Starcom Network News understands that a sixth man is likely to be charged, however, he is still hospitalized.
