Five men remanded to Dodds in 4.6 million drug seizure

Five men have been remanded to Dodds Prison in connection with the importation and seizure of 580.85 kilograms of cannabis.

The men, four Barbadians, and one Tobagonian, appeared in the No. 1 District “A” Magistrates Court this morning, before Kristie Cuffy Sargeant where they were not required to plead to the indictable charges.

The court heard that Roydell Skeete, 40 of Sandy Hill Trace, Tobago, Damario Dottin, 27 of Brereton, St. Phillip, Jamar Kirton, 35 of Sunbury, St. Phillip, John Edey, 42 of Evelyn Road, St. Phillip and Wayne Chase, 53 of Edgecumbe Tenantry, St. Phillip are charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis, trafficking cannabis and the importation of cannabis.

They will reappear in the Oistins Magistrate Court on February 20th, where Counsel for the men have indicated they will make a bail application.

The drugs which were seized on Welches Beach, Christ Church on February 9th, allegedly in the presence of the said accused, have an estimated street value of 4.6 million Barbados dollars.

Kings Counsel Michael Lashley appearing for Edey and the Tobagonian Skeete, says he is appealing to the judiciary not to prolong the case.

The other accused were represented by Shadia Simpson and Simon Clarke.

Starcom Network News understands that a sixth man is likely to be charged, however, he has been hospitalized at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
