NCF launches million-dollar residency programme

A million dollar music lab has been launched in Barbados in honour of local music icon, the late Jackie Opel.

The “Jackie Opel Residency Lab” at the Queens Park Steel Shed, produced by the National Cultural Foundation under the coordination of Dr. Stefan Walcott, will gather artistes to explore, reinterpret and celebrate Opel’s contributions.

Seven artiste have been selected as the first cohort in the nine-month programme which will culminate with a cultural show paying homage to Opel in August and they will also produce a musical album.

Minister of Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, says the investment in the lab is money well spent.

CEO of the NCF, Carol Roberts says the seven residents were chosen to embody what Opel stood for.

The seven chosen residents are: Keisha Dowridge, Glen Rice, Jomo Slusher, Alika Hinds- Orisawayi, Safia Stoute, Starlite Talma and Sunrock.
