Armed robbery attempt on minibus

Minibus and route taxi operators are on alert after an attempted armed robbery last evening.

They say this is just the latest in a series of such incidents.

Chairman of the Association of Public Transport Operators, Anwar Nana, tells Starcom Network News the incident happened about 6:30 yesterday evening at Lynch’s St. Philip.

According to an account of the incident relayed to Starcom Network News, an armed man boarded the minibus that was headed to Bayfield and demanded money claiming he was willing to kill everyone on the vehicle.

The attempted robbery was foiled when the conductor knowing that the would-be robber was after his money bag, quickly exited the bus and got into a passing car which resulted in the gunman disembarking the bus as well and leaving the scene.

Mr. Nana says such incidents are becoming more frequent.

Mr. Nana says many PSV operators no longer work after dark due to fear of being robbed.
