Barbados has officially recorded its fourth homicide for 2025, as a Colombian man was this morning charged for murdering his uncle.
23-year-old John Esteban Hernandez appeared in the Oistins Magistrate Court before Deidre McKenna where he was not required to plead, accused of the murder of Pedro Berrio on January 16, 2025.
Starcom Network News understands that Hernandez reportedly stabbed his uncle while they were both at their local residence in Maxwell, Christ Church on January 14th.
Berrio reportedly died two days later.
Police arrested Hernandez and following their investigations, made the charge today. He has been remanded to DODDS Prison until March 20th, 2025 with his consent, waiving the automatic 28-day legal requirement.
Hernandez and Berrio were previously working on a construction site on the South Coast.
Hernandez is being represented by attorneys-at-law Simon Clarke and Dr. Lenda Blackman.
