Thorne demands payment for fishermen

Opposition leader Ralph Thorne complains that a number of fishermen have not received the financial assistance promised and is demanding that government do so by tomorrow and also extend the payments beyond the previously announced deadline.

Mr. Thorne was speaking at a news conference this morning at the Opposition leaders’ office in the presence of some of the fisher folk and vendors.

The Opposition leader argues that government is responsible for the destruction and damage to the fishermen boats that occurred during the passage of Hurricane Beryl by failing to provide proper storage during the passage of the storm.

He added that while some fisher folk have received the promised financial assistance from government others have not.

Mr. Thorne at first said he was giving them government one week to pay the money or he would provide details of the concessions given to other sectors.

He later shortened that deadline at the urging of the fisher folk.
