Plan to counter school violence

Government has a plan to combat violence in schools through a co-ordinated approach involving several ministries.

Minister in the Office of the Attorney General responsible for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane says his ministry is working with the Education, Youth and People Empowerment Ministries to address the root causes of school violence.

He was speaking this morning on the sidelines of the signing of an agreement to establish of a sister city relationship between New York and Bridgetown.

Mr. Lane says a key initiative, with the acronym ‘CURB’, aims to intervene with at risk youth before they reach the ages where criminal activity tends to increase.

Mr. Lane acknowledged widespread concern about violence among school aged children and said government’s approach remains proactive aiming to prevent issues before they escalate.
