Hopes for jobs/economic boost from Maritime Industry

Government has undertaken a comprehensive overhaul of this country’s shipping laws that Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill says paves the way for development of a maritime industry to boost economic activity and create jobs.

The plan was outlined by Mr. Gooding-Edghill as he led off debate in the House of Assembly on the Maritime Shipping Bill.

He says the bill that has over a thousand pages ensures Barbados is fully compliant with international regulations for maritime safety and security and paves the way for yachts, ferries, cruise ships and other vessels to register here.

He explained how Barbados will benefit.
