Relatives and friends of Barbados’ latest homicide victim are calling for the resumption of the death penalty in Barbados saying more severe measures are required to halt an upsurge in gun killings.
They were reacting to the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Ricardo Gill who was gunned down about 1:45 am today just outside the front door of his home at Newton Crescent, The Pine, St. Michael.
The victim’s mother Rosetta King tells Starcom Network News that her husband woke her after hearing what he thought were two cars colliding outside their home, but it was the gunshots that they had heard.
She says the experience has left her feeling numb.
Meantime, as angered family friends chimed in, Mrs. King called for the death penalty to be resumed.
The victims’ aunt Ruth Butcher and his sister Rosario Gill told Starcom Network News that Ricardo Gill, known by friends as “Gilly” was a mason and handyman.
They disclosed that he had run-ins with the law and had been charged for an arcade robbery.
However, they didn’t know why anyone would want to harm him.
