Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight will be the Barbados Labour Party candidate in the Christ Church South constituency in the next general election.
Senator Dr. Munro Knight, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, won the nomination by a landslide when voting took place today (Saturday) at the St. Christopher Primary School.
She beat challenger Christopher Alleyne by 135 votes to five with three spoilt votes.
She had been heavily tipped to win the nomination to become the BLP candidate to replace Ralph Thorne who quit the ruling party and crossed the floor to rejoin the Democratic Labour Party and become its new political leader and the Oppositon Leader.
Kurt Haynes, who had been one of the contenders expected to pose a challenge to Senator Dr. Munro-Knight, withdrew from the race two weeks ago, and another candidate withdrew from the race last night.
