Munro-Knight tipped to win BLP Ch Ch South nomination today/two challengers withdraw

Voting takes place today in a closely-watched constituency election to select a new Barbados Labour Party candidate to contest the Christ Church South seat in the next general election.

The ruling BLP will be selecting a candidate to replace Ralph Thorne who quit the BLP and crossed the floor to rejoin the Democratic Labour Party and become its new political leader and the Opposition Leader.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro Knight is the front-runner to win the nomination ahead of only one other likely candidate.

Kurt Haynes, who had been one of the contenders expected to pose a challenge to Senator Munro-Knight, withdrew from the race two weeks ago, and Starcom Network News understands another candidate withdrew from the race last night.

The BLP Christ Church South nomination will be held today at 4:00 p.m., at the St. Christopher Primary School.

The featured speaker will be Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.
