Former Opposition Senator Tricia Watson has resigned from the Democratic Labour Party.
Her resignation letter was dispatched this morning to the acting General Secretary of the DLP Pedro Sheperd.
The very terse letter states:
“I hereby resign from the democratic labour party with immediate effect.
You are to immediately refund me the sum of thirty-six dollars being annual membership subscription for the period of August 2024 to August 2025, paid in cash on August 22nd, 2024.”
Last weekend, to applause from his supporters, opposition leader Ralph Thorne announced that he would be appointing a new Senator to join Senator Ryan Walters on the DLP team in the Upper Chamber.
And yesterday morning acting DLP President Andre Worrell was sworn in as Ms. Watson’s replacement.
At a news conference this morning at the Opposition leader’s office at Hinks Street, Mr. Thorne again defended that decision.
He says there is now what he called a healthy dynamic among the parliamentary group.
Mr. Thorne referred to his previous appointment of Miss Watson stressing that he would not be involved in any attack on her.
Mr. Throne also urged the media and the country overall not to be distracted by DLP affairs and to focus on issues such as the gun crime.
