Barbados is proceeding with a deployment of personnel as part of a peacekeeping mission in Haiti with the Bajan contingent expected to be dispatched later this year in the second batch of Caricom security forces being sent.
Barbados’ Ambassador to Caricom, David Commissiong, tells Starcom Network, the first contingent of Caricom security forces to join the Kenyan-led peace-keeping mission is expected to be deployed soon.
He explained that Barbados will not be part of that first deployment because Barbados’ security personnel were unable to take part in the pre-deployment training of the joint Haiti peace keeping force due to their involvement in the security for the Cricket World Cup.
He notes that for security reasons the precise deployment date for the Caricom peacekeepers is unlikely to be publicized but he expects their dispatch is imminent.
