Promoters urge Bajan soca artistes to aim for high standards

This country’s promoters insist that the recent matter of a dancer being dropped on stage during an event and the overall heavily-criticized performance, is an isolated incident and doesn’t reflect the general behavior in the industry.

President of the Entertainment Association of Barbados, Rudy Maloney, also tells Starcom Network News, the organization niether condones nor encourages such behavior.

He was responding to the public outcry over the incident where a performer picked up a female dancer who subsequently fell from his grasp onto the stage.

Members of the public and key entertainment figures have been highly critical of what transpired and the entertainer involved has issued a public apology.

Mr. Maloney says lewd lyrics or behavior is not encouraged at established events.

Mr. Maloney also urges local soca artistes to aim for a high standard in their music, especially if they hope to make an impact on the international market.

But, he thinks the quality of the music this year is very good.
