MP/Christian Council appeal for end to gun violence

A government MP and the head of the Barbados Christian Council have appealed for an end to the recent upsurge in gun violence as a former block leader insists the truce among urban gangs remains intact.

They were speaking after Barbados yesterday recorded its 16th homicide for the year with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old male at Gall Hall, Christ Church and which follows a recent gun killing at nearby Silver Hill.

In total, there have been four fatal shootings across the country in the past week.

Member of Parliament for Christ Church West Central, Adrian Forde, wants an end to the gun violence that has claimed lives in his constituency.

Mr. Forde notes that government has established a number of programs targeting vulnerable young people and he urges the youngsters to take advantage of these opportunities.

The Barbados Christian Council is also concerned about the recent upsurge in gun crimes.

Chairman of the Christian Council, Reverend Dr. Cicely Athill-Horsford, tells Starcom Network that the situation is becoming increasingly worrying and she urges the perpetrators to consider the consequences of their actions.

She, too, has called for an end to the gun violence.
