Private school staff walkout over security concerns

Staff at the Sunshine Early Intervention Centre at Roebuck Street, St. Michael walked off the job today over security concerns after a series of break-ins and vandalism at the property.

The Barbados Workers Union, the school’s principal, the vice principal, the staff and the school’s lawyer, met to discuss a way forward after the most recent break-in where a weapon was found on the premises of the special needs school.

Deputy General Secretary of the BWU, Dwaine Paul says this meeting was necessary to discuss recent and longstanding issues at the school.

A trustee of the School Terrence Howell says a weapon was found on the school compound and they are considering additional security measures following the recent incident.
