The Barbados Cricket Association denies there’s industrial action planned by its staff ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup but has launched an investigation into several allegations made in a document that’s in circulation hinting at industrial unrest at the organization.
Management of the BCA met today with the staff there over the matter.
The document in circulation alleges that the staff were on the brink of taking industrial action over a number of decisions by a member of the BCA management team.
Following today’s meeting the BCA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Roland Toppin, issued a statement stating that it has been brought to their attention that a text message is being widely circulated via WhatsApp making several allegations.
Dr. Toppin only specifically refers to one of those claims, the allegation which referred to the accommodation of President Dame Sandra Mason and her entourage during the World Cup. The message claims that certain privileges might be denied the President’s entourage.
The statement says the BCA wishes to make it absolutely clear that there has been no contemplation of industrial action by the BCA’s staff in the recent past nor is there any threat of the same leading up to, or during, the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches which are scheduled to be played in Barbados next month.
It adds that the BCA further disassociates itself from what Dr. Toppin terms the blatantly erroneous information presented in the WhatsApp message inclusive of the matters in relation to the President.
Dr. Toppin says the BCA gives assurance to the public that the usual respect and courtesy will be extended to the President and her guests at all times during the upcoming World Cup matches in Barbados.
The BCA adds that with respect to the other allegations in the WhatsApp message, the BCA will undertake investigation to ascertain the facts and will act accordingly.
