A 19-year-old, Christ Church woman has turned herself in to police and has been charged with theft after security camera video footage of an alleged cellphone theft went viral.

Nineteen year old Christie Taylor of Packers, St. Patrick’s, Christ Church is due to appear in court to answer the charge.

The young lady surrendered to police after security footage was circulated on social media with an appeal for the public’s help in identifying the alleged culprit.

The time stamp on the video indicates the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday in the dining section of KFC, Fairchild Street, St. Michael.

The video shows a man taking a nap at a table with his cellphone in front of him on the table when a woman walks up, takes the phone, spends a few moments checking it and then leaves the establishment.

It’s several moments before the man awakens and starts searching for the phone, which is nowhere in sight.

A complaint was made to the police leading to the video of the event being circulated and the woman being charged.

The cellphone has been recovered.
