No plan to move city vendors for World Cup say organisers

Chairman of the Barbados Local Organising Committee for the Cricket World Cup, Noel Lynch, insists that government has no intention of moving vendors from Cheapside or any part of Bridgetown to accommodate the upcoming T20 event.

He was speaking to Starcom Network News to clarify the matter after some Cheapside vendors told the Nation Newspaper that they were informed they would be moved.

However, Communications Consultant for the Barbados Tourism Investment Incorporated, Joy-Anne Haigh told the audience of VOB’s Down to Brasstacks program that eventually street vendors across Barbados will be relocated to special zones in line with a plan outlined as far back two years ago.  She said vendors will be properly informed when the time comes.
