A derelict building behind the old helipad in Bridgetown has been extensively damaged by fire.
The Barbados Fire Service says they were informed about the incident just after 9 this morning and responded promptly.
Fire Officer Jason Collins spoke to Starcom Network News at the scene.
A person who works nearby said she was told that the fire may have been set intentionally by one of the homeless people who had taken up residence in the area where the blaze occurred.
Starcom Network News understands that the police have held a young man in connection with the fire.
