QEH Overhaul No Simple Task Warns NUPW

The National Union of Public Workers warns that government’s planned overhaul of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital won’t be a simple exercise and will require extensive negotiations to balance the interests of workers with state objectives.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley recently announced the plan to transform the QEH into a 24/7 operation and stressed the need for different terms and conditions for the staff.

NUPW General Secretary, Richard Greene, tells Starcom Network News that while the union agrees with the need to improve operations at the QEH, extensive discussions will be required.

Mr. Greene notes the large number of people employed at the hospital and stresses that making major changes to their working conditions won’t be a straightforward matter.
