Cave Hill Staff Back On The Job

Cave Hill Staff Back On The Job

Workers at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus are back on the job.

The campus staff went on strike this week over pay demands and picketed the compound declaring “no money no work”.

The Cave Hill employees insisted that they were entailed to the same pay increase as well as the one-off fifteen hundred dollar payment granted government workers.

The university employees were briefly off the job on Tuesday  and went fully on strike yesterday, while this morning students turning up for classes found the classrooms locked.

But later this morning, General Secretary of the Barbados workers union, Toni Moore, informed the scores of striking university employees that UWI management had agreed to pay today the 15 hundred dollar lump sum and also promised that the salary increase and any related money due would be included in their next monthly pay cheque.

But Ms. Moore warns that the workers will resume industrial action tomorrow if the payments are not completed by today.
