Two alleged crop thieves shot dead

A farmer watching his crop shot dead two alleged thieves in the early hours of this morning.

Starcom Network News understands the incident happened about 20 minutes past midnight at Three Houses Plantation in St. Philip.

Sources tell Starcom Network News a man had leased land from the plantation to grow yams and that he and his son were guarding the yam field overnight since people had been stealing his crop.

Recently, two people had been questioned by police in relation to a report of theft from the same plantation.

The farmer, a licensed firearm owner, reported that around 20 past twelve, he and his son came across two men who were stealing his yams.

The farmer confronted the men and said he was then attacked by one of them with a pitchfork.

The farmer opened fire and shot both men dead.

The police are now trying to identify the two men who were killed and have launched an unnatural death investigation.

The police have asked that anyone who can identify either of the two individuals should contact the District C Police Station to make arrangements to visit the morgue for official identification.
