Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has been explaining the decision to remove St. Michael North Member of Parliament, Neil Rowe, from the post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly stressing the need to ensure the work of Parliament and government isn’t compromised by the MP’s private business.
Mr. Rowe was previously indicted on the charge of having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent and is to be arraigned in the High Court on Thursday to answer to the rape charge.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament today, Miss Mottley called it a difficult day but felt the revocation of Mr. Rowe’s appointment as Deputy Speaker was necessary.
Miss Mottley notes that Mr. Rowe remains an MP while he fights the case.
