BAMC Privatised/Workers Severed

Today is the last day of operations for the state-owned Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) whose operations have been privatized and its employees severed and officially transition to two private companies from tomorrow.

A notice has been jointly issued to staff from the outgoing BAMC as well as the two new enterprises, the Agricultural Business Company Limited and the Barbados Sugar and Energy Company Incorporated.

The agricultural business formerly conducted by the BAMC is now being operated by the Agricultural Business Company Limited.

The manufacture of sugar, its by-products, the sale of sugar, and the Portvale Factory operations formerly conducted by the BAMC are now being operated by the Barbados Energy and Sugar Company.

The former workers of the BAMC collected their severance papers today.

The process began just after 9 this morning and workers got their packages in alphabetical order.

The workers expected to collect their monies on Friday but were told to return today.

When Starcom Network News visited the Factory in Blowers St. James, scores of workers were waiting in the area of the main office.

Some workers spoke after collecting their packages.
