$12M Offered for Properties Auctioned by BRA

$12M Offered for Properties Auctioned by BRA

The Barbados Revenue Authority has this week received more than 12 million dollars in bids for 16 properties sold over two days to recover 4.3 million dollars in land-tax owed by the former owners.

Six properties were auctioned off on Wednesday and today seven more were sold today at the auction held at Sky Mall.

As many as 44 properties were to be auctioned to recover outstanding land tax but after the auction notices were posted many of the owners came forward to make arrangements with the BRA to settle the amounts owed.

Communications Officer at the Barbados Revenue Authority, Erica Lazare, says the auction was a last resort to try to get the delinquent property owners to pay their land tax.

With the total value of the properties auctioned way exceeding the taxes owed, she explained the process that follows.
