Luther Thorne Teachers Turn Up late In Protest Over Conditions There

A large number of teachers at the Luther Thorne Memorial Primary School turned up late today in yet another apparent show of protest over the environmental conditions and overall state of the physical plant at the Wildey, St. Michael facility.

Some parents returned to the school this morning to collect their children in anticipation of classes being disrupted.

However, the Ministry of Education says the school remained opened and that officers from the ministry were on the compound as were senior teachers and the principal.

The majority of the teachers are said to have reported for work at 10 a.m.

First Vice President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Julian Pierre explains why.

About three weeks ago parents were also asked to collect their children due to the absence of the teaching staff.

When Starcom Network News visited the school this morning some parents said they are concerned about the situation because the children are being disadvantaged.
