Unity Union Reports Sick Out at BRA

An undisclosed number of the employees of the Barbados Revenue Authority are said to be on a sick out as Caswell Franklyn’s Unity Workers Union threatens to intensify the industrial action unless certain demands are met.

However, BRA management say they are unaware of such a sickout though there are some absences.

Unity’s General Secretary, Caswell Franklyn, tells Starcom Network News that he represents more than one hundred of the BRA’s roughly three hundred staff and his union is demanding that it be recognised as the bargaining agent.

Mr. Franklyn couldn’t say how many of the BRA staff is taking part in the sick out but threatened an intensification.

Meantime, BRA management say there are people on sick leave, some prior to today, but that the agency’s operations are not being affected in any significant way.
