An 18 year old Barbados national athlete athlete has died from an injury suffered when he jumped off a jetty at Browne’s Beach, Bay Street, St. Michael.
Michyah Thompson, of Sunbury Terrace, St. Philip was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He’s believed to have suffered a broken neck.
The young man had jumped from the jetty and emerged from the water complaining that he couldn’t breathe.
He then collapsed and an ambulance was summoned. CPR was performed, but he failed to regain consciousness.
Along with being a national track and field athlete, the young man was a Sargeant Major in the cadets and a past student of the Foundation School who was planning to attend the Alleyne School in the upcoming new school year.
