An upsurge in robberies and a number of gun crimes has this country’s business community concerned and pressing for more police presence especially in Bridgetown and even at specific establishments.

Eddie Abed, a past President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the current Chairman of the Bridgetown Revitalization Committee, confirms the growing worry in the private sector.

And he admits the concern has intensified since the incident yesterday when a man armed with a knife robbed a Sure Pay outlet and was later shot by police on the busy Broad Street.

He notes that businesses outside of Bridgetown also want a police presence.
