A man is in custody in relation to last night’s fatal shooting in St. Phillip.

The police tell Starcom Network News a male is assisting with investigations into the killing of 20 year old Nicobie Lavia of Cox Hill Church Village St. Phillip.

Another man was shot and injured in that incident and was taken to hospital. That man is now listed in stable condition.

The two shooting victims were said to be sitting in a car at Nursery Number Two, Four Roads, St. Phillip around 7 30 last night when they were confronted by a number of men who opened fire.

The deceased is said to be the son of a well known St. Philip resident.

Last night a spokesman for some of the relatives of the deceased spoke of the family’s deep grief over what transpired while speaking highly of the young man who was killed.

And this morning residents at Nursery Number Two were still shaken by last night’s fatal shooting.

When Starcom Network News visited the area today a  resident said she overheard an argument just before the shooting began.

Meantime, while a viral message being circulated attempted to link a supposed relative of a government minister to last night’s events, sources told the Starcom Network News that the minister in question has no stepson, contrary to what was being suggested.

The sources, said to be very familiar with the minister and his family, described the rumour as malicious, baseless and patently untrue.
