Today is the official start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season and President of the General Insurance Association of Barbados, Randy Graham, says insurers are seeing more people coming forward to make sure their homes are insured.
Mr. Graham tells Starcom Network News that Hurricane Elsa two years ago served as reminder to many of what could happen.
He stressed the importance of having updated insurance in case of disaster.

Meantime, President of the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers, Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Browne, sees the need for more stringent building standards in Barbados.
Yesterday, speaking during a news briefing to mark the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, warned that many the homes in Barbados are unlikely to withstand a Hurricane.
Speaking on VOB’s Down to Brasstacks call-in program Lieutenant Colonel Browne said he fears what could transpire if Barbados suffers a hit from a major storm.
He believes that prospective home builders should seek the input of qualified experts.
