The Barbados Fire Service has been battling a blaze at the old Barbados Family Planning building at Jemmott’s Lane, St. Michael.
The Fire Service has ordered an evacuation of surrounding buildings.
Chief Fire Officer, Errol Maynard, provided an update.
This is the latest in a string of fires in derelict buildings. The Fire Chief says there have been at least seven fires at that location so far this year. It’s a government complex that once housed the ministry of health.

Residents of the area are appealing to the authorities to do something about the disused government complex.
When Starcom Network News arrived on the scene of the fire, many residents whose homes are close to where the fire occurred expressed frustration saying that for years they have been asking for the matter to be addressed.
