Woman Burnt to Death in Home ; Mental Patient Shot – In Separate Incidents

Saturday night was hectic for emergency services responding to a fatal house fire and an altercation involving a mental patient who had to be shot.

Around 9 pm residents at Blades Hill #3, St. Phillip reported to police that a man said to be a mental patient was misbehaving and was involved in an altercation with neighbours.

When the police arrived on the scene one of the officers was stabbed in the shoulder while trying to subdue the man.
Another police patrol arrived and one of the occupants of that police vehicle was struck in the head with a bottle thrown by the man who was then shot in his lower back by police.

The man who was shot has been hospitalized.

Both injured officers have been treated and discharged.

In a second incident at 5 past 9, the fire service received a report of a house on fire at Hillview, Marley Vale St. Philip.

The fire, which destroyed two residences, situated next to each other, was extinguished at about 10:45pm. Firemen reported the discovery of the charred remains of a woman in the bathroom section of the house.

The body was later identified as 67-year-old Carol Alleyne of the same address.

The blaze had spread to a neighboring home which was also destroyed. The second house is owned by Michael Hunte of the same address. Both houses were uninsured.
