Labour Minister Colin Jordan has issued a warning to employers, especially in the construction sector who he says are violating labour laws, including paying less than minimum wage and not paying in NIS contributions.
Delivering a ministerial statement in the House of Assembly, Mr. Jordan disclosed that he had ordered a crackdown.
He highlighted specific practices.
Mr. Jordan warned that government contractors and their subcontractors will be required to comply with labour law.
The Labour Minister also reminded people employed by construction companies that they have the right to refuse dangerous tasks.
A construction worker recently died after falling into a well he was cleaning.
Mr. Jordan announced that the labour laws will be strengthened to give more protection to workers and allow for more power of enforcement.
